Common questions from job seekers about how Jobby.dev works.
Is Jobby.dev free for job seekers?
Yes. Seeker accounts have always been and will always be free. Recruiters pay per live event hour; that cost is not passed through to seekers in any form.
Can I be in multiple queues at once?
No, exactly one. Joining a second queue automatically leaves the first. The matchmaker assumes you're available right now if you're queued, and being in five queues simultaneously breaks that assumption.
How does the matchmaker decide who I'm paired with?
It scores skills overlap, years-of-experience band, compensation-range overlap, location / remote preference, and work-authorization compatibility, with a small freshness boost for long-waiting seekers.
Will the recruiter see my email or phone number?
Not before you accept the match. Even after acceptance, your email is masked to the first character + domain in their UI. Full contact info is shared only when the recruiter advances you and you confirm the share.
What happens if I'm late or my computer dies mid-interview?
If you don't join within 90 seconds of accepting, the match auto-cancels and you return to the queue without losing your spot. If your network drops mid-interview, you can rejoin from the room URL within 5 minutes.
Can I re-interview for the same role?
No. Once a recruiter has decided on you for a specific role, that role is locked from re-matching with you for 90 days. You can match to other roles at the same company immediately.
Is the interview recorded?
Only if both sides agreed at room start. Cloud recording is server-side; there's no per-side local recording. Transcripts are stored encrypted and are only visible to the side that produced them — we don't share full transcripts cross-side without explicit consent.
What devices and browsers does the interview work on?
Latest two majors of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop. Latest two majors of Chrome and Safari on mobile. The interview is browser-only — there's no desktop client to install.
What happens if the recruiter never shows up?
If 90 seconds elapse from your acceptance with no recruiter, the match auto-cancels and you return to the queue. Recruiters who repeatedly no-show get progressively de-prioritized in the matchmaker.
Can I block specific companies from matching with me?
Yes, from the privacy settings page. Blocked companies cannot match with you, and your profile is invisible to them in any candidate-search surface they use.
Does Jobby.dev sell my profile to third parties?
No. Your profile is visible only to recruiters at companies running active live events you've matched with, and only after both sides accept. We don't sell, license, or syndicate seeker profiles to ATS vendors, recruiting agencies, or aggregator job boards. Privacy details are in our DPA at /dpa.
What happens to my profile if I stop using Jobby.dev?
After 12 months of inactivity, your profile is auto-archived (invisible to recruiters, can't be matched). After 24 months of inactivity, the account is fully deleted with our standard 30-day grace period. You can delete the account immediately at any time from the account settings page.
Can I export my data?
Yes. From account settings, click 'Export my data' to receive a JSON archive within 24 hours containing your profile, every match, every interview transcript (your side), and every report card you've received. GDPR-compliant.
Why don't I see live events from large tech companies?
Most Fortune-500 tech companies haven't adopted on-demand interviewing yet — they're optimized for the async pipeline. Jobby.dev's strongest density is in 50-500 person companies hiring 5-50 roles per quarter, where the time-to-hire compression matters most.
